A ragdoll cat is a beautiful and rare breed that has very unique traits. They are known as Ragdoll cats because of their excessive amounts of fur and long hairs. 1. Shedding
Lots of websites with information on ragdoll cat and kittens claim that they do not shed their fur, however this is completely false. These cats have thick cots with long hair and they certainly shed quite a lot of fur. They might not shed as much if they live in cooler climates, but if you’re living in the tropics then be ready for some serious shedding.
2. Grooming
Another common misconception is that ragdolls are (mat-free) and some even are, but just like other pets, ragdoll cats need to be groomed on a regular basis. This is very important, because as their fur is long it can get matted easily if not looked after.

Most people who have cat allergies is often because of either their saliva or fur coat. Ragdoll cats however don’t have this particular undercoat and due to this fact most people assume their not — hypoallergenic. Besides just like other cats, ragdolls use their tongues to clean themselves, which mean there’s saliva on their fur balls too, so being allergic to them is a possibility.

If you’re looking for a cuddle companion, ragdolls might not be a good option. Don’t get me wrong, some might like cuddling while others won’t. Most ragdolls take time to get used to an owner and be comfortable in that way.However over time they have been known to show a lot of affection.
5. Floppy
Even though they are known as ragdolls, they’re not always floppy. As the name suggests people often have the notion that their limp/floppy cats, similar to an actual ragdoll.But that’s not entirely true. You might find some that go limp when held and then their are some that don’t like being touched at all.
6. Scammers
When doing online research or looking to adopt a ragdoll, certain websites don’t post genuine information. If you’re looking to adopt a pure-bred ragdoll, it’s best to go through a reputable individual who’s registered with the CFA or TICA. Also going through trusted referrals is another good option to ensure you’re getting the cat you want.
7. Be able to Afford it
Ragdolls can live up to 15 years and require a lot of maintenance. Keep in mind that if you want to adopt one, being able to invest in them is just as important. Even though the future is unpredictable, it’s best to take everything into consideration before deciding.
